I am obsessed with getting the absolutely perfect shot - so much so that it doesn't feel like a blessing, but a curse.
Since 2008, Akemi has had an undying passion for photography and videography, a field many black minorities such as himself find hard to get traction in. After originally learning everything he knows on his own and have worked tirelessly to hone my skills, his passion has only grown. He is working towards one day having a career in photojournalism focusing primarily on war, disaster and other areas most dare not touch.
In 2018, he created Otaku Photography, which was originally known as Akemi Mokoto Photography. The business is now like his own body part. He puts everything he has into his work without sleep and without a break until both he and the consumer are satisfied.
He previously worked at PZ Feed as their Breaking News editor but, outside of his business, he occasionally works with Getty Images and various real estate companies as a photographer. He is currently enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography studying Photojournalism and Photography to further develop his skills, as there is no such thing as too much knowledge.
Outside of Photography, he is an active member of the community - Volunteering with CERT - Chesapeake & NWS SKYWARN.
He has won 4 awards, 33 nominations and ranked in the top 30 or greater 19 times on Viewbug. He is also a member of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, National Press Photographers Association, Professional Photographers Association and Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.
